Register for Veterans Appreciation Luncheon

Lieutenant General Michael S. Tucker was born and raised in Charlotte, N.C. and at the age of 17 after graduating from Harding HS, he entered active duty as a private in the Cavalry in 1972.


Prior to his retirement in 2016, following more than 44 years of active service, he served as the Commanding General, First U.S. Army, located at Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois. Lieutenant General Tucker had served previously as Commanding General, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Red Cloud, Republic of Korea, and Chief of Operations ISAF-NATO in Kabul, Afghanistan in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, and Commander, 1st Armored Brigade, 1st Armored Division, Friedberg, Germany, which included deployments in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM.


Key assignments include: Drill Sergeant Basic Training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo; Commandant US Army Armor School, Ft. Knox, Ky; Assistant Professor US Military Academy at West Point, NY; Deputy Surgeon General US Army at Walter Reed Army Medical Center; Deputy Chief of Operations for the US Army at the Pentagon; NATO Chief of Operations, Kabul, Afghanistan.


Following retirement, LTG Tucker performed Senior Mentor duties for the US Army Mission Command Training Program, training 18 Division and Corps Commanders on their wartime missions. He currently sits on multiple Non-Profit Charity/Veteran Service Boards. He is a Veteran’s Care Advocate and represents York County on the Lake Wylie Marine Commission.


LTG Tucker holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Psychology from the University of Maryland, a Master of Science degree in Public Administration from Shippensburg University, and a Master of Military Arts and Science degree from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.


LTG Tucker served 4 combat tours in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kuwait. Among other awards, he has earned multiple Bronze Stars, one with Valor at the Battle of Medina Ridge during DESERT STORM.
LTG Tucker and his wife, Teresa enjoy living in their home on Lake Wylie, SC and love spending time with their 10 grandchildren.
